This week is Umpire Appreciation Week and we say a BIG THANK YOU, to all the umpires that take part each and every week.
Umpires are a critical part of sport who play an important role in every game. Put simply, without them, the game couldn’t happen.
Each week we need to provide Central Umpires, Goal Umpires, Boundary Umpires and Netball Umpires. Umpires are required to make thousands of split second decisions not only around the area of play but also off the ball. So will they get every single decision correct, probably not, (let’s face it, even with the benefits of video replay, not everyone will agree or have the same opinion), but they will be doing their best and calling it as they see it. We can all be amazing umpires from the sidelines, but have you picked up a whistle and volunteered to have a go?
Our umpires show leadership, display courage and deserve respect! Umpiring can be a thankless role, which is all the more reason for us individually and collectively to take the time to say thank you.
On behalf of everyone we say thank you to our Umpire Coordinators and Team Managers for organising our umpires each week, our Umpire Mentors for providing guidance to help develop our umpires to be the best they can and of course all our umpires, as you allow the players, coaches and supporters to enjoy the games we love!
